Electrical Assistant Technician M/F

We currently have an opportunity within SPIE Global Services Energy in Qatar for an Electrical Assistant Technician .

Job Purpose:

This position offers a unique opportunity with many advantages in the oil and gas career sector, as part of one of SPIE’s most important projects in Qatar with QatarEnergy, in its 10th year of multi‑discipline tasks in maintenance and operation of a large industrial area.

The candidate shall be responsible for:

1. Operation and maintenance of complete electrical systems, including supervision, planning, scheduling, and inspection.
2. Hands‑on experience in all types of electrical system equipment and control system maintenance.
3. Monitoring computerized maintenance systems, handling notifications and work orders.
4. Operation and maintenance of HV & LV distribution networks.
5. Maintenance of switchgear, transformer, and generator protection philosophy, and testing of protection devices.
6. Maintenance of neutral and equipment earthing systems.
7. Operation and maintenance knowledge of UPS, battery charger, and battery banks.
8. Maintenance of SCADA, FO cable, and switchgear protective devices.
9. Hands‑on experience working with a work permit system in the oil & gas industry.
10. Ability to manage a repair department, perform preventative work, and follow safety protocols.
11. Demonstrated commitment to safe work culture and practices.

Your main duties will be ensuring and conducting the following:

- Maintenance tasks.
- Installing and performing diagnostic tests on systems.
- Developing and implementing maintenance plans to prevent costly equipment breakdowns.
- Troubleshooting malfunctions and breakdowns, as well as performing repairs.
- Documenting processes and maintaining service records.
- Monitoring the availability of parts and replenishing supplies.
- Optimizing efficiency by adjusting machinery and equipment settings.
- Maintaining a tidy work environment and adhering to industry regulations.

Plant maintenance experience on HV substations, switchboards up to 6.6 kV, motors, UPS, thyristor rectifiers, and general plant electrical utilities is required.

Profile

• Trade certificate in Electrical or higher, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical machines, power systems in the oil & gas industry, power generation & distribution, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with different electrical systems, equipment, and components, including fittings and material specifications.
• Capability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair various electrical systems and equipment.
• Experience in HV & LV distribution networks.
• Knowledge of neutral and equipment earthing systems.
• Experience with numerical relay protection, transformer maintenance, MV/HV cable jointing and repair, vacuum breaker maintenance, MV motor maintenance, and operation of MV motors.
• Experience with PLCs, HVAC, instrumentation, and computer‑based man‑machine interfaces; switching and operating experience on plant at 415 V, 6.6 kV, 11 kV, 33 kV, and 132 kV is highly desirable.
• Computer literacy and familiarity with MS Office.
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Strong documentation and communication abilities.
• Organizational skills, time management, attention to detail, problem‑solving.
