Senior Staff Performance Engineer, Firefox

Responsibilities

• Write code and tests, build prototypes, and profile and analyze Firefox performance bottlenecks.
• Develop performance-critical software using primarily C++ and JavaScript, with other languages as needed.
• Debug and resolve performance issues using experiments, measurements, and profiling tools.
• Educate engineers through code reviews, talks, tooling, and documentation.
• Define and drive actionable next steps from high-level objectives.
• Lead and support performance efforts with engineering teams across Mozilla.
• Shape performance benchmarks and prioritize necessary improvements.
• Develop strategies for the future of the Performance team and organization.
• Set team goals and motivate and align cross-functional teams toward shared outcomes.

Requirements

• BS or MS in computer science or computer engineering.
• At least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Mastery of C++ programming and understanding of JavaScript programming.
• Proven experience developing performance-critical software.
• Experimental and measured approach to diagnosing issues and validating solutions.
• Proven ability to debug and analyze performance bottlenecks using profiling tools such as VTune and Xperf.
• Experience with multithreading, concurrency, disk I/O, and GPU performance.
• Track record of setting team goals and driving them to completion.
• Ability to work effectively in a geographically distributed team with strong written and verbal communication.
