Cody is an AI chat like ChatGPT – it uses the customer’s documentation or website to enrich the conversation. Most of our users use it for chat support, document summarization, or creative writing. We’re looking for a great Laravel engineer who can pick up new things quickly and help us expand into more business and enterprise use cases.

About The Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced Laravel developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the Laravel ecosystem, several years of experience, and a keen eye for detail. As we are a small team, the ability to be a self-starter and to build high-quality applications independently is essential. This position offers the flexibility of fully remote work.

You will be working on the Laravel backend for our apps. Our backends power a web UI, usually built with Vue, and sometimes mobile apps. Your role will be to develop and maintain new features for these apps. The expectation is that you will fully own the application lifecycle, from feature conception to delivery. You will also work with one or more frontend developers to support the development of the frontend part of the application.

As a member of Cody's development team, you will also be responsible to research and evaluate new methodologies and technologies that improve the quality, reliability, and performance of the development systems and processes.

Responsibilities

Discuss, plan, build, and maintain new features for Laravel apps.
Write maintainable, self-documented code.
Write tests for your code with PHPUnit/Pest with TDD.
Review PRs to leave constructive feedback and enforce a company code standard for the rest of the team.
Communicate with the rest of the team effectively with the ability to explain complex problems.
Attend meetings with team members, clients, or stakeholders when technical details need to be discussed.

Technical Skills

Excellent knowledge of Laravel and ecosystem tools like Horizon, Nova.
Have a test driven approach to software development.
Able to demonstrate excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Sound understanding of object oriented programming paradigms.
Good understanding of MySQL database and how to optimize data and query for performance.
Good understanding of Redis and in-built data structures like Streams.
Good understanding of software development workflow and Git.
Good understanding of Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
Excellent spoken and written English abilities.

Nice To Have

Experience with DevOps related work.
Some experience with front-end work, particularly in Vue 3.
Experience with LLMs and cloud API options like OpenAI, Anthropic etc.
