Position Available for a Regulatory Vet with Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club

Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (“QREC”) is the governing body for Thoroughbred and Arabian horse racing in Qatar. Its responsibilities include regulatory, integrity and equine welfare leadership of the racing industry.

Details of the position:

Applicants are invited to apply for the full‑time position of Regulatory Veterinarian at QREC based in Doha, Qatar. The position reports to the Head Regulatory Veterinarian and the Chief Steward.

This is a newly created position supporting the Head Regulatory Veterinarian, and has responsibility for providing high level scientific and clinical veterinary expertise to safeguard the welfare of Thoroughbred and Arabian horses and the integrity of the Qatar racing industry.

Core responsibilities include:

Officiate at race meetings and official trials, as required, and provide veterinary advice, inspect and examine participating horses.
Respond to racing injuries and other equine incidents.
Monitor and provide oversight and supervision of antidoping and medication control sample collection processes on race day and out‑of‑competition.
Conduct non‑race day examinations and inspections.
Record, maintain and monitor anti‑doping, injury and other veterinary statistics, as necessary.
Monitor vaccination schedules and compliance with requirements.
Provide advice to the Chief Steward and other relevant industry stakeholders in relation to veterinary, welfare and anti‑doping/medication related matters.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with veterinary practitioners, internal and external stakeholders, and industry participants to achieve best practice standards and reform agenda.
Provide expert, evidence‑based advice to drive key reform agenda through policy implementation and participant education projects.
Represent QREC in national working groups, as required.
Other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in the job classification.

The successful applicant will have:

A degree in veterinary science registrable in Qatar (essential).
Qualified for five (5) years with broad experience of equine practice (preferable).
Experience working with Thoroughbred and/or Arabian horses.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to lead, manage and supervise staff.
A strong sense of initiative and the ability to identify critical issues.
The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Ability to make clinical decisions rapidly and under intense scrutiny.
The capacity to work well under pressure to meet team objectives.
Highly developed written and oral communication skills and the ability to gather information from various sources to create a range of written resources, in particular policy documents and reports.
Demonstrated ability and experience in dispute resolution and negotiation through clear and concise communication to achieve a favourable outcome.
Experience in racing regulation and/or an anti‑doping organization.
Knowledge of the Rules of Racing.
Experience/knowledge of biosecurity, infectious diseases and disease control.
Experience in writing expert statements and providing evidence at inquiries and appeals.

Due to the nature of the position, the successful applicant will be required to work on a flexible schedule basis or during the weekend if required and in emergencies. An attractive remuneration package is on offer.
