Position Overview

Position Title: Quality Control Inspector Mechanical (Rotating Equipment, Static, Piping, Welding)

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering; or technical diploma with substantial field experience.
• Direct exposure to quality control in multi-discipline construction environments.
• Formal training in QC and membership in a recognized chartered or professional institution is preferred.
• Mandatory certifications: CSWIP 3.2 or AWS-SCWI Sr. Welding Inspector and NDT Level-II (ASNT, ISO, etc.).
• Preferred certification: BGAS grade-2 or NACE Level-2 Painting Inspector.
• Equivalent certifications from internationally recognized organizations may be accepted.

Experience

• 10 years' experience for Bachelor's degree holders or 15 years for technical diploma holders in a similar QC role within the oil and gas sector.
• Preferred: Previous experience in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
• Hands-on experience with storage tanks, piping, pipeline welding inspection and testing, installation of static and rotating equipment.
• Strong working knowledge of QC aspects and multiple testing requirements specific to major oil and gas or petrochemical construction projects.
• Ability to collaborate with contractors and colleagues of various levels in a multidisciplinary, multicultural environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure safety for yourself and others who may be affected by project activities, regardless of direct control, and proactively participate in all safety matters affecting project construction.
• Take measures to prevent pollution during project activities.
• Coordinate and attend inspections, tests, and punch lists representing the owner's interests.
• Review and understand project-specific inspection documentation to ensure contract compliance.
• Implement and monitor quality inspection procedures for construction activities, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Check contractor documentation (for inspections, tests, surveillance, and surveys) meets requirements of the Project Quality Plan, ITPs, and project specifications.
• Ensure completion, accuracy, and maintenance of all inspection and testing records and reports.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, third parties, and project end users.
• Verify all measuring and testing equipment calibration records are maintained and current.
• Conduct surveillance on site construction activities to identify and report potential or actual non-conformances, assisting in proposing corrective/preventive actions.
• Coordinate with site supervisors and contractors to align on construction progress and ensure proper planning and execution of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE).
• Assist the Sr. QA/QC Engineer in reviewing/approving contractor documents such as QCPs, ITPs, WPS/PQRs, personnel qualifications, material approvals, vendor documents, project dossiers, and more.
• Monitor and witness contractor activities across material preservation, fabrication, installation, inspection, and testing related to structural steel, process piping, pipelines, tanks, rotating/static equipment, and internal installations.
• Witness and verify all inspection and testing related to welding, NDT, PWHT, hardness testing, pressure testing, alloy verification, painting, and system hydrotesting-ensuring strict compliance with project requirements.
• Closely monitor contractors' special process performance and personnel, including weld repairs and NDT status, and promptly report concerns to the Sr. QA/QC Engineer.
• Participate in receiving inspections for project materials and verify documentation for traceability (piping bulk materials, structural steel, consumables, painting/wrapping materials, etc.).
• Follow up on corrective actions to ensure timely closure of non-conformances.
• Monitor non-compliance trends and provide feedback on contractor performance.
• Initiate surveillance and prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for Sr. QA/QC Engineer approval.
• Maintain relevant QA/QC documentation and records accurately and securely.
